      The image of the soot-covered veteran firefighter has always inspired respect and honor. But that dirty garment may be deadily. Firefighter Paramedic Kurtis Bennett was honored Friday by the San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation for the work he and his staff are doing to deal with cancer as an occupational threat to the life of a firefighter.
      The 2017 Statewide Fallen Firefighter Memorial Service at the MS Fire Academy will be held October 10 beginning at 10:00.
      Our disaster relief efforts on the ground in Texas and Louisiana are nothing short of amazing.

      The Back the Badge legislation which creates enhanced penalties for assaulting first responders has just passed the house by a vote of 94-18 and is headed to the Governor's desk for a signature.  We will be working to coordinate the time and place so as many first responders as possible can be there.
      A cookout is planned for Tuesday, April 4th at 6:00 pm at the Biloxi Fire Department West End Hose Company #3 Fire Museum. The conference will be held on Wednesday, April 5th and Thursday, April 6th. A FREE one-day summit will be held on Friday, April 7th and Saturday, April 8th.  The summit will be presented twice - once Friday and again on Saturday.

      It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Gulfport Firefighter Judson Renner. Funeral arrangements are as follows: MONDAY, JANUARY 30th Westminster Presbyterian Church 5005 Lawson Ave.
      The retirement bill we requested that allows us to get 1 year of service for every 5 years we work has errors and says we can BUY that time.  The Echols Group will work to get this bill passed with an amendment to accurately reflect what we are looking to achieve. No word yet on whether PERS will support this or not.

      On Thursday, January 12, 2017, Governor Phil Bryant announced more bad news as it relates to budget cuts totalling nearly $51 million dollars.  These budget cuts impacted almost every state agency and averaged 1.45 percent of each agencies overall budget.

      At 8:48 a.m. on Thursday October 11th, Local 2164 members responded to 911 reports of a vehicle fire in the driveway at 6162 South Poplar Street in Centennial. Heavy smoke was visible in the area while members were responding. First arriving Engine 33 encountered a fully engulfed pickup truck cab and advanced a hose line to control the flames and protect the house.

      At 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday October 9th, Local 2086 and 2164 members responded to a residential kitchen fire in the 3700 block of West Chenango Avenue. The 911 caller reported a fire in the microwave and safely evacuated without injuries. When Engine 11 arrived smoke was coming from the front door of the house and members advanced a hose line inside.

      Fremont Ave Structure Fire

      At 09:32 a.m. on Monday Engine 42 and Tower 35 were dispatched to a fire alarm activation at 16363 E. Fremont Avenue in Arapahoe County. While they were responding a report came from onsite advising that water and smoke were coming from under a door on the top floor. The incident was upgraded to a structure fire and additional crews were dispatched.

      At 12:58 p.m. on Tuesday, Local 2086 and 2164 members responded to a residential structure fire on Concord Court in Highlands Ranch. Smoke was visible from the house when crews arrived and a 360 walk around revealed a fire in the basement. Members advanced a hose line inside for fire control and all levels of the home were searched for people and pets.
