  • The First Responder Legislative Caucus met at the State Capital on March 3, 2022 to discuss important issues with Senators and Representatives
    Updated On: Mar 08, 2022

First Responders met with Senators on Thursday, March 3, to discuss current issues with firefighters, EMS, and law enforcement. Senate Caucus Chairman Brice Wiggins led a successful meeting in bringing attention to our issues. President of the Caucus Bubba Carpenter and House Caucus Chairman Jeff Hale echoed Wiggins's sentiments. Senator Angela Hill talked about supporting first responders at the state legislature.

Attendees discussed funding the First Responder Health and Safety Act of 2019.  Lt. Ryker Halsden of Gulfport Fire Department spoke during the meeting about his recent battle with cancer and how funding this ACT would help him and other first responders like him.

State legislators passed significant bills this year, including COVID-19 LODD funding for first responders and COVID-19 premium pay for first responders, and are working on additional measures before the session ends.
