    This morning the House and Senate passed Senate Bill 2835!  This bill is headed to the governor for his signature.   On behalf of our brothers and sisters in fire service and law enforcement, we say THANK YOU to the members of the Mississippi Legislature for passing our First Responders Health and Safety Act (SB 2835) into law.

    A miracle has happened! The Mississippi First Responders Health and Safety Act (Senate Bill 2835) has pass the House Insurance AND Appropriations Committee.  The House will now vote on the bill in the next week when it goes to the floor. Then, House and Senate members will invite conference and work out a final bill.

    The Mississippi Senate took Senate Bill 2835 to the Senate Floor very quickly today.  Senator Joel Carter, Jr. presented S.B. 2835 to the floor and after a floor vote, it passed with only one "nay" vote.  The bill will now be moved over to the House and be assigned to committee.

    All are invited to attend the annual 9/11 ceremonies at St. Andrew's Episcopal Cathedral, 305 E. Capitol St., Jackson, Mississippi.  Pat Hardison is the speaker for the noon ceremony.  Pat is a Sentobia Volunteer Firefighter. After suffering burns while fighting a fire, he is the first facial transplant receipient.   All first responders are invited to attend.

    The Firefighter Cancer Support Network is sponsoring a Health & Wellness Symposium to focus on cancer prevention best practices, behavior wellness, personal protective equipment research, and naviating through the workers' comp system.   Special Guest Speaker is Edward Kelly, IAFF General Secretary-Treasurer. The Symposium will be held at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside.

    PROFAM members from Biloxi, Jackson, Gautier, and Pascagoula participated in the 14th District Caucus in Orange Beach, AL this week.  Discussions were help with other state professional firefighters associations about Mississippi's future presumptive legislation and cancer prevention for firefighters.
